Making Scholars of the Public
Every scientific paper has a section at the beginning called the abstract which summarizes that specific paper. However, for the lay-person, scientific research and even the abstracts can be very confusing to read. The result? People are dependent on organizations, scientists and other "authorities" to interpret the research for them. More often than not, the conflicting interpretations and opinions are a major source of confusion for the public.
One of the best ways to make consumers independent thinkers and truly informed is to give them direct access to the scientific papers, in a way that they can understand. Your Abstract is designed accomplish this. Here, we summarize scientific papers to make them more understandable for the lay-public. By doing this, without our added opinions and interpretations, we provide a tool that can empower regular people to think for themselves and take their health into their own hands.
